Australia: KANGAROO (Perth Mint)
You are in the category: GOLD COINS - AUSTRALIA - AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO.
Coins The Australian Kangaroo succeeded the original series of coins, which had been issued since 1986 under the name The Australian Nugget. By 1990, BU gold coins from The Australian Nugget series depicted one of four large gold nuggets found in the Australian area. The motif was the same all four years, differing only in the masses of the coin. In 1989, on the proof version, the gold grain was first replaced by a kangaroo motif. A year later, the kangaroo motif was also transferred to BU coins. Since then, the design of the kangaroo on the BU gold coins is changed every year, but the title of the series “THE AUSTRALIAN NUGGET” has remained unchanged. Despite the official title, the series became known among buyers under the nickname "Golden Kangaroo". It took almost two decades for the series to also be officially renamed. In 2008, the name “AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO” first appeared above the main motif.
