In 2014, the Perth Mint introduced a wonderful 1 oz t .999 silver coin with motive of "Wedge-Tailed Eagle". This majestic image of the eagle just before landing on the branch was sculptured hands of John M. Mercanti, the well known medalist. In addition to the eagle's image,dame side of the coin also include inscription "AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE" together with the year of forging, weight and metal content in the coin. The coin just under the eagle also carries the mint mark, the letter "P". The coin is the first in the series.

The other side of the coin carries the profile of the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the work of the medalist Ian Rank-Broadley.

The coin is packed in the capsule of the PCGS. A special feature is the signature of John M. Mercanti on the back of the cover.

The Australian Perth Mint is located in the city of Perth on the west coast of Australia. It started operating on June 20, 1899 as a branch of the English Royal Mint from London. It was founded in order to refine the large quantities of gold obtained during the gold rush. From this they then minted gold Sovereigns for the British Empire. In 1987, an Act of Parliament established the Gold Corporation, which, in partnership with the Commonwealth of Australian Treasury, became the new operator of the Perth Mint.
